According to noted leaker Ice Universe, the latest rumors for the Galaxy Z Fold5 involve its reworked hinge mechanism, a key new addition to the upcoming foldable product. This is not the first time Samsung has heard the news that the Fold5 will use a new droplet hinge. Last month, South Korean publication Naver News carried a similar report.
The Samsung Display’s “water drop” folding hinge mechanism will allow the Fold5’s folding panel to form a water drop shape inside the hinge body, thereby preventing creases between the sides of the panel. A similar approach has been used by MOTOROLA and Oppo in their foldable phones to hide creases. Ice Universe also revealed that the Fold5 will only be 13mm thick in its folded state, a significant upgrade from the Z Fold4’s 15.8mm.
