If you get motion sickness while using your phone in a vehicle, consider turning on the Vehicle Motion Alerts feature in your iPhone/iPad, which is a new feature added to iOS 18 released in 2024 to help reduce the feeling of motion sickness. Take a look at how to turn it on and what it says!

Vehicle Movement Alerts
Vehicle motion alerts help reduce motion sickness when passengers use an iPhone or iPad in a moving vehicle1The device uses sensors built into the iPhone and iPad to reduce the sensory clutter that often causes motion sickness. Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, dots appear on the device's screen that move in sync with the motion of the vehicle, reducing the sensory clash that often causes motion sickness. These dots are carefully designed to stay on the side of the screen so they don't interfere with whatever you're viewing. You can turn on Vehicle Motion Alerts manually in the Control Center, or choose to have it enabled automatically when iPhone senses vehicle motion.
Use your iPhone / iPad more comfortably when traveling in the car
If you feel uncomfortable using iPhone as a passenger in a car or other road vehicle, you can turn on Vehicle Motion Alerts, on-screen alerts that may help relieve motion sickness. Vehicle Motion Alerts appear as dynamic dots at the edge of the screen that represent the way the vehicle is moving and do not interfere with the actions you are performing on iPhone.
[Note]Do not use Vehicle Motion Alerts when operating a moving vehicle and in other situations that require attention to safety. For important information about avoiding distractions that could lead to dangerous situations, see the Important Security Information for iPhone. Vehicle motion alerts work better when you are sitting face forward in the vehicle.
- Go to "Settings"
> Accessibility > Dynamic Effects. - Tap Show Vehicle Motion Alerts, then tap an option. If you select "Automatic," dynamic dots appear on the screen when iPhone detects that you're riding in a car or other road vehicle; the dots are hidden when motion stops.
- To manually show or hide vehicle motion alerts, open Control Center and tap
, then tap an option.
- Using iPhone in certain situations can be distracting and may lead to dangerous conditions (for example, avoid using the headset while riding a bicycle or manually typing text messages while driving a vehicle). Please observe any prohibitions or restrictions on the use of mobile devices or headphones. ↩︎
