Apple is in investment talks with artificial intelligence company OpenAI, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.
While the report doesn't reveal the exact amount Apple plans to invest in OpenAI or provide additional details about the negotiations, it notes that the funding round will allow the ChatGPT development companies valued at more than $100 billion.

Apple previously announced that ChatGPT will be integrated into Siri for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia and is scheduled to be available by the end of this year.
Subject to user authorization, Siri will be able to display ChatGPT's answers directly and respond to a variety of questions and prompts. Additionally, ChatGPT will be available as one of the options in Apple's system-level writing tools to help users generate text and images. Apple says these features will be powered by OpenAI's latest GPT-4o model.
iPhone, iPad and Mac users can use ChatGPT for free without creating an account, while ChatGPT Plus subscribers can connect their accounts to access paid features on these devices. Apple emphasizes that OpenAI does not store ChatGPT requests made from Apple devices and that users' IP addresses are masked for privacy.
Apple's smart feature has been pushed to developers since last month in the iOS 18.1 beta, but the ChatGPT integration is not yet open.
It's worth noting that the Apple Smart feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, or Macs and iPads with the M1 chip and newer, to work. Additionally, the device's language must be set to American English, with more languages being gradually supported over the next year.
Additionally, the report mentions that Microsoft also plans to further invest in OpenAI.
