Apple today released new developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which introduce the first Apple Intelligence features. apple Intelligence, which was initially demonstrated in June, represents Apple's Apple Intelligence, which was initially demonstrated in June, represents Apple's latest advancement in artificial intelligence.
While not all Apple Intelligence features are live in this beta, we've rounded up what's currently available. Please note that iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are currently limited to developers and are expected to be available to all users in beta form this fall.
Apple Intelligence is currently in the initial optimization phase as Apple works to fix bugs and refine new features. Apple Intelligence will continue to improve over time, and features missing from the developer beta are expected to be available later this year.
writing instrument
- Text Proofreading: Automatically detects spelling and grammatical errors, including word choice and sentence structure. Users can accept all suggestions with one click, or view and interpret them one by one.
- text rewrite: Clean up what is written and adjust the tone, options include friendly, professional and concise.
- Text Selection and Summarization: You can choose to create paragraphs, extract bullet points, make lists or tables. The summarize function is available in applications such as email and messaging.

Siri (Internet slang)
- New Display: When Siri is active, a new halo effect appears around the edge of the display for iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay. on a Mac, the Siri window can be freely placed. The halo animates in response to your voice, letting you know if Siri is listening without interrupting other actions.
- input interface: Double-tap at the bottom of the display to open the Type to Siri interface, which allows the user to enter a request instead of a voice. If it doesn't work, you may need to restart. on a Mac, you need to double-tap the Command key to bring up Type to Siri. type to Siri includes suggestion requests for faster answers to your questions.
- context-sensitive: Siri can maintain context between requests, for example, if you ask for the temperature in Orlando and then ask "What's the humidity?" Siri will know you mean the humidity in Orlando.
- speech recognition: Siri can follow along even if you stutter or change what you're saying.
- Equipment Knowledge: Siri has the Apple product knowledge and support to answer questions about your device's features and settings, and even find settings you're not sure of the name of.
mails
- Summary Button: You can summarize any incoming mail and see a brief summary in your inbox list instead of the first few lines of the message.
- Important emails are prioritized: Smartly prioritize the display of time-sensitive messages by placing them at the top of your inbox to ensure you see what's important right away.
- intelligent reply (to a question): Provides a quick reply option with context-sensitive suggestions based on the content of the email.
- Notification summary: Multiple email notifications will be summarized on the lock screen, allowing you to view the content of your emails without opening the app.

- intelligent reply (to a question): Provides smart reply options to incoming SMS messages and analyzes message content to provide recommendations.
- Notification summary: Multiple message notifications will be summarized on the lock screen.
photographs
- Memory Movie: Simply enter a description to create a memory movie, such as "My cat in 2024" or "Orlando in the summer". This feature automatically picks relevant photos and music, but you can adjust or select the mood to guide the audio direction through the Memory Mixes feature. You can also add specific scenes and images when creating cues.
- natural language search: Use the natural language search function in photos, e.g. "Eric the green rollerblader".
- Video Clip Search: Search for a specific moment in a video clip.
- Smart Suggestions: The search function provides intelligent complementary suggestions to help narrow down what to look for.

- audio transcription: Record audio and get transcribed text and summaries in Notes and other apps for recording audio content such as lectures.
Focused Mode
- Reduced distraction focus mode: Show only the important notifications that need attention and filter out the rest.
- Intelligent breakthroughs and silence: Provides a new toggle option when customizing an existing focus mode or creating a new one. This allows important notifications to interrupt you while muting unimportant notifications, similar to the previous reduced notification focus mode. You can override notification settings for specific apps and people.
telephones
- telephone recording: You can record phone calls in iOS 18.1. When making a phone call, tap the small Record button in the upper left corner of the display. All participants will receive a recording notification before the recording begins.
- Recording storage: Recorded phone calls are stored in the Notes application, where you can view the transcribed text and generate summaries from it.
Safari
- Summary of reading patterns: When reading an article in Reading mode, there is an option to have Apple Intelligence summarize the article for you.
Apple Intelligence Report
- Privacy and Security: In the Privacy & Security section of the Settings app, you can access Apple Intelligence reports and export your Apple Intelligence data, consistent with Apple's commitment to transparency. Face ID is required to access and export Apple Intelligence data.
Apple Intelligence Waiting List
- Waiting list: Developers upgrading to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1 will need to add the Apple Intelligence wait list to the Settings app. This is to ensure that background downloads run smoothly and avoid overloading the system.
- Waiting list mechanism: On the waiting list, Apple devices download the necessary files for in-device processing, and so far the waiting list has taken a short time from enrollment to activation. Waiting lists are divided by account, so you only need to register on one device to use it on multiple devices.
Apple Intelligence Compatibility
- Equipment Requirements: iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta are available only to registered developers and eligible devices. Devices that are not capable of running Apple Intelligence will not receive the update.

Apple Intelligence Availability
- Language and region: Currently, Apple Intelligence is only available in U.S. English and is not available to developers in the European Union and China. The device region and language needs to be set to US.
Apple Intelligence Release Date
- Release Date: Apple Intelligence will not be available in the initial release of iOS 18, which will be released alongside the new iPhones. It will be available as a standalone iOS 18.1 update, which is expected to be released a few weeks after iOS 18 is available.
