Apple launches beta version of web-based Maps app

Apple today announced the availability of Apple Maps for the Web, now in public beta. Apple Maps for the Web supports Safari and other browsers, allowing users to access navigation services without having to open the Maps app.

The web version of Apple Maps is similar to the in-app experience, allowing users to get driving and walking directions, find locations, view ratings and hours of operation, and browse curated travel guides. Additionally, users can order food directly from map location cards and explore dining, shopping and entertainment around the world. Apple says additional features such as "Look Around" will be available in the coming months.

Apple Web Maps

The web-based Apple Maps will be an alternative to Google Maps, which has been the most popular web-based mapping service. Users can also visit Apple'shttps://beta.maps.apple.com/ maybe https://maps.apple.comwebsite to experience this new feature. Developers can also link to the web version of Maps in their apps, enabling users to easily access driving directions and location information.

Currently, the web version of Maps is only supported in English and is available in Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, and Chrome and Edge on Windows computers. Apple plans to add support for more languages, browsers and platforms in the future (mainland users cannot experience the service).
