According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his "Power On" newsletter today, rumors are swirling that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with larger display sizes.
In his latest newsletter, Gurman confirms other reports that Apple plans to increase the size of the two "Pro" iPhone models from 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches by "fractions of an inch diagonally". The new display sizes will be the largest ever for an iPhone.
Gurman noted that the change will make Apple's high-end smartphones more competitive with equivalent devices from rivals like Samsung. The addition may also provide more internal space for improved hardware, such as camera technology and larger batteries.
In May, display analyst Ross Young said that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would come with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, an increase of about 0.2 inches in size. The rumor was later confirmed by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Twitter tipster "Unknownz21," who provided the internal model numbers of the devices.

The display size of the two standard iPhone 16 models is not expected to increase, and this change will only apply to the high-end models.
According to the latest reports, the increased size of next year's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will bring a number of upgrades, including a periscope telephoto camera and a main camera sensor with an increased area of 121 TP3T.
The rumor was initially shared on Weibo by an industry insider. The individual claimed that the next-generation iPhone 16 Pro model will come with a larger display, which will provide more internal space for various components, including the periscope telephoto camera system. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said earlier today that the larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro model could help enable better camera hardware or a larger internal battery.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to introduce the iPhone's periscope telephoto camera for the first time, the feature is expected to initially only be available on Apple's largest iPhones.Apple is reportedly planning to introduce the periscope camera to both "Pro" models with next year's iPhone 16 Pro model. The iPhone 16 Pro is reportedly planning to introduce the periscope camera to both "Pro" models next year. As such, the increased size of the iPhone 16 Pro is at least partially an attempt to realize more interior space for the periscope camera on the smaller Pro model.
As for the iPhone 16 Pro Max or iPhone 16 Ultra, the extra internal space will allow for a larger main camera sensor measuring 1/1.14-inch. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max currently come with a 1/1.28-inch sensor. No increase in sensor size is expected for this year's iPhone 15 Pro Max. This claim is supported by a Twitter tipster known as "ShrimpApplePro".
A larger sensor can improve the dynamic range and background blur effect of the main iPhone camera. This can also significantly improve low-light photography as the larger surface area can capture more light at the same shutter speed and aperture.
