Apple has pushed iOS 16.3.1 to its users, if you are a heavy Google Photos user, please do not update to iOS 16.3.1 for now as the existing version of Google Photos is incompatible with iOS 16.3.1 will lead to an instantaneous crash when Google Photos is turned on, if you are not a heavy user, then you can Update as this version fixes some bugs and also includes some security updates.
Users are reporting that after updating to iOS 16.3.1, when they try to open the Google Photos app, it crashes immediately. As of now, Google has not commented on the issue. Again, only a few hours before iOS 16.3.1 was released. While the bug appears to be related to the iOS update, fixing it is likely Google's responsibility.

If you are a new Google Photos user, downloading the new Google Photos app will allow you to sign in normally without crashing. Once Google Photos is allowed to access iPhone files, the app will crash - this may be due to the way Google accesses these files.
Other apps with full library access don't seem to be affected, such as Darkroom.Google may release a fix soon, so users won't have to wait long to restore their apps.
This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone, including:
- If the app is using iCloud, the iCloud settings may not be responding or displaying correctly
- Siri may not work on "Find Me" requests
- Crash detection optimization on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
