On July 16, the latest report released by Canalys, a renowned market research organization, showed that Xiaomi surpassed Apple for the first time to become the world's second largest smartphone vendor.
This report says that global smartphone shipments increased by 121 TP3T in the second quarter of 2021 as the new crown vaccine grew in popularity globally and the economies and populations of various countries began to develop a new normal.
Samsung led the pack, with its smartphone shipments capturing a market share of 19%. For the first time, Xiaomi came in second with a share of 17%.Apple came in third in the top five, while Oppo and Vivo maintained their strong growth momentum.
Ben Stanton, research manager at Canalys, said, "Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its overseas business. For example, Xiaomi's shipments in Latin America, Africa and Western Europe grew by 3,00%, more than 1,50% and more than 50%, respectively. xiaomi continues to grow and evolve with the times.
The company has now shifted its business model from challenger to guardian, launching a variety of programs such as integration of channel partners and finer management of old inventory in the open market. However, Xiaomi remains primarily focused on the mass market.
That's 40% and 75% lower than Samsung's and Apple's average selling prices, respectively. So it's going to be a tough competition this year as one of Xiaomi's most important tasks is to boost sales of its high-end products (like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra).
Oppo and Vivo have the same goal in mind, and both manufacturers are happily investing huge marketing dollars in traditional mass media to build their brands in a different way than Xiaomi.
In a tight global supply chain environment, vendors are struggling to secure parts and components, but Xiaomi has set its sights on its next goal: replacing Samsung as the world's number one.
