Tiobe, a research firm, released this analysis for October 2020 on October 6, and the results show that the top ten hasn't changed much, with C at the top for the third month in a row, followed by Java and Python.

Python is still in third place in the TIOBE index this year, but ratings are steadily increasing, and Tiobe believes Python will soon overtake Java; Python and Java are very close in ratings, with a gap of less than 1.3%; and the R language and PHP have been replaced yet again.
The TIOBE index is based on the number of experienced programmers, courses, and third-party vendors on the global Internet and uses search engines (e.g., Google, Bing, Yahoo!) while statistical data from platforms such as Wikipedia, Amazon, and YouTube rank the data, which merely reflects the popularity of a programming language and does not indicate whether a programming language is good or not, or the amount of code written in a language.
