Britain, France and Germany have not followed suit in banning TikTok

While Europe resists the TikTok ban, the U.S. is stepping up its efforts to crack down on Chinese tech. After President Donald Trump threatened to block TikTok, Europe's three largest economies - Britain, France, and Germany - also failed to block TikTok, Bloomberg 3 reported.

According to the report, spokespersons for the British and French governments said that the two countries do not plan to block TikTok. Also, a German government official said that Germany has not yet found indications that TikTok's app, known as TikTok, poses a security risk and has no plans to deactivate it. The British prime minister's spokesman added that Johnson had not yet spoken to Trump about the matter.

In addition, The Sun 3 quoted a source in the UK's Johnson government as agreeing to TikTok's establishment of a headquarters for the short-form social media platform in London, and said that the plan would be announced in the near future. In response to this situation, the head of TikTok responded on the same day, "We are indeed exploring the possibility of establishing a TikTok headquarters outside of the United States." The report added that the Johnson administration took a big risk because it could anger President Donald Trump, who is considering imposing a ban on TikTok.

But Bloomberg also said that ByteHop is also under wider scrutiny in a number of countries as it relates to privacy policies. This follows an investigation by the Dutch Data Protection Authority into the safety of children's data; and a representative of France's Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs said the French government was primarily concerned about content on TikTok's site regarding online hate speech and the protection of minors.

Bloomberg also said that the continued pressure from Washington on TikTok's parent company ByteDance coincides with opposition to Huawei on the part of the White House.
