Recently, Fuzhou mobile 3G base station deactivation and write-off of the news on the network caused a hot debate. Some analysts say that this is China Mobile's big 3G retreat.
In this regard, many netizens are worried: can we still surf the Internet happily when 3G is withdrawn from the network? There will be no signal everywhere, right? Don't worry, let's see what's going on!
Frequency reduction in 2G and 3G networks of the three major carriers
A few days ago, there is news that the Fuzhou City Radio Authority to Fuzhou Mobile letter, "your unit on the application for the cancellation of TD-SCDMA base station report received. After study, agreed to write off your unit has ceased to use the TD-SCDMA base station 6535, the database of TD-SCDMA base station data to be blocked and retrieve the originally issued radio station license.
TD-SCDMA base station for China Mobile 3G network base station. As a result, China Mobile's 3G withdrawal from the network has triggered heated debate.
Relevant parties from China Mobile told CNN, "There is no more information to disclose on this."
An informed source in the industry told CNN that in fact the three major operators have been doing 2G, 3G network frequency reduction work, just focus on different.
It is reported that China Mobile is 3G network frequency reduction (frequency reduction to all 3G base stations disappear, that is, 3G withdrawal), while China Telecom and China Unicom is 2G, 3G network frequency reduction.
Does it affect the user's normal use?
According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), by the end of 2018, the total number of cell phones in the country reached 1.57 billion, of which the total number of 4G users reached 1.17 billion. That means China still has 400 million 2G and 3G users.
Will the retirement of 2G and 3G affect this part of the user? Independent telecommunications analyst Fu Liang believes that the three major operators network frequency reduction is a gradual process, 2G users do not have to worry too much. China Unicom previously also said that the frequency reduction is not to close the network, but a gradual "thinning" process.
In addition, as mentioned above, the three major operators have a focus on network frequency reduction. As we all know, China Mobile still has a large number of 2G users, but is now doing 3G network frequency reduction.
The latest data released by China Mobile shows that by the end of January, China Mobile had 927 million subscribers, of which 717 million were 4G subscribers. This means that China Mobile still has 210 million 2G and 3G subscribers.
Xiang Ligang, communications industry experts, said the old technology is normal to exit, why 2G GSM is not retired, because the main function of the GSM is to make phone calls, and today many telephone services are still using the 2G network, retired phone can not be played, "the future will gradually form a 3G, 4G are retired, but 2G is difficult to retreat from the basic pattern."
Why are you backing out of the network?
As for why to withdraw from the network, Xiang Ligang said, TD-SCDMA and other 3G, 4G technology, the main function is the data service, but the 3G technology, a base station only supports about 20M traffic, the ability is very weak.
Another retired network is for the efficient use of spectrum. Fu Liang said in an interview with China News Network reporter, the original 2G network occupied a number of frequency bands, some frequency bands are scarce, can be said to be a valuable resource, reuse available in 4G network construction, is conducive to improving network quality and network wide-area coverage.
The operator itself acknowledges this.In April 2018, China Unicom issued an announcement that it was pushing forward its 2G network frequency reduction in an orderly manner. At the time, China Unicom said that bandwidth resources were freed up for higher 4G networks and deployments.
Xiang Ligang also said that if China Mobile can clear out of the 3G spectrum and use it for 5G, it will greatly improve spectrum utilization, improve efficiency, and is also very favorable for 5G network construction.
Regarding 5G frequency bands, in December 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued 5G low-band test frequency use licenses to the three major operators. Among them, China Telecom and China Unicom were granted the 3500MHz band test frequency use license, and China Mobile was granted the 2600MHz and 4900MHz band test frequency use license.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also issued the Measures for the Coordination and Management of Interference between Fifth Generation Mobile Communication Base Stations and Satellite Earth Stations and Other Radio Stations (Stations) in the 3000-5000 MHz Frequency Band.
You can see how precious the frequency bands are, so it's no wonder that operators are trying to replant the bands.
So, what kind of user are you and will you try 5G?
