Here’s a look at the possibility that Apple could release an iPhone without a port in 2024, as the news has been trending:
Apple needs to design a special operating system for iPhone, similar to macOS recovery system, which can be used to restore the iPhone when the iPhone iOS crashes. Generally without a data port, the iPhone cannot be restored by connecting to iTunes on a PC with a USB cable as before, and the existing iTunes is likely to be abandoned and become a thing of the past, because only connecting to iTunes via Wi-Fi requires certain network conditions. Every user’s network environment is different, which will cause a lot of problems for Apple after sales. I think if an iPhone without a port comes out, there will probably be a shutdown/drastic change to iTunes policy (or a very streamlined iTunes), iPhone data backup and other operations will be done wirelessly or through iCloud.
If the iPhone is released without a port, Apple may change the button function, such as the previous restore mode and DFU mode entry mode, may change to restore system entry mode, this method also applies to the iPad, one problem is that Apple has been previously reported to use a solid state button on the iPhone in the future, Not sure how Apple’s solid-state buttons will work.
If this assumption is true, after the iPhone without interface enters the recovery mode, it can only connect Wi-Fi and download the latest operating system supported by the current iPhone to download and restore the iPhone, then Apple will cancel the previous recovery mode and DFU mode. These two methods don’t make any difference to the iPhone when there is no cable connected to the PC.
This is a huge amount of work for iPhone, for any device manufacturer, because once this is started, all other device manufacturers will definitely follow, because it will usher in a new era of mobile devices, and another impact is that the European Union revised the new law requiring mobile phone batteries to be detachable. As well as issues with eSIM cards and physical SIM card slots, which could affect Apple’s design of the iPhone’s body gap, it’s a long way from Apple to any manufacturer.
